YWP biker fuels his passion for motorcycle racing

"I love the exhilaration that you get when you ride a bike. I feel free. If I could ride all day every day, I would." - Vincent de Bock.

NARROW tracks, smoking treadmarks and deafening bike revs are what fuel the passion of avid Yellowwood Park motorcycle road racer, Vincent de Bock.

At the tender age of six, he started riding bikes and eventuated to racing motocross at age the age of seven, fairing commendable results. Recently, he joined the KZN Road Racing Club (KZNRRC) which holds its events at the popular Dezzi Raceway down in Port Shepstone. After a challenging 2019 race year with a mix of mechanical issues on his Starline 150 CC machine, Vincent was placed third in the CBR 150 club championship. He also had an opportunity to ride the Actum/Bandit Yamaha R3 for the last few events this year which he thoroughly enjoyed. This opportunity has encouraged Vincent to join another competitive motorcycle racing class in next year.

Vincent de Bock, 22, is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with out on the tracks.

He said he isn’t quite sure how found he himself so vested in the sport, however his dad, Jan rode bikes occasionally. “Growing up, I didn’t own a bike but when I was four years old I kept nagging my him for a one until he eventually gave in and I got my first bike at the age of six. A tournament that stands out for me the most was back in 2015 when I won the KZNRRC club championship. I have also raced junior motocross with some of today’s best in the country.”

One of his most memorable moments on the track was when he crashed at 200km/h at a national race in 2017 and fortunately survived without injury due to the safety of the track and the correct kit. “That year I got the award for the most spectacular crasher, ” he said, living up to the phrase that a smooth race never made a skilful racer.

“I love the exhilaration that you get when you ride a bike. I feel free. If I could ride all day every day, I would. Not taking any credit away from my work as a design draughtsman because one still needs to work for a living,” shared the road racing enthusiast who is looking forward to an action packed 2020 road racing season.
