A CASE of house robbery was opened at the Montclair police station after a resident was tied up and had his house ransacked in the early hours of the morning. At approximately 4am, the man was sleeping in his house on South Coast Road, Clairwood, when he was awoken by the sound of an opening door. According to the police, when he got up to check, he noticed an unknown man inside his bedroom who slapped him with an open hand.

“While he was still confused, the unknown man tied him up with a cable and took him to another room where there was a witness. They demanded cellphones and cash and he told them that he didn’t have money. They went to the main bedroom while his partner held out a knife to the man and the witness,” said Capt Derek Vijiam of Montclair SAPS.

He added that the unknown men took a Samsung TV and other belongings and fled with it. “The witness followed them up until they stopped on Higginson Highway where a silver vehicle, of an unknown make, arrived. The suspects jumped in and drove off in the direction of South Coast Road. No injuries were sustained,” said Capt Vijiam.

At about 2.30am, a man was at his workplace on South Coast Road, Clairwood, sitting inside a truck when his passenger door opened and he was confronted by an unknown man at knifepoint.

“They told him to keep quiet and took him out from the truck, tied him up with a reflector jacket and made him lie under the truck. He saw them removing tyres with rims from the truck. He could not do anything. He heard a vehicle coming inside the yard and when he checked, he noticed a white Isuzu bakkie with no plates on it,” Capt Vijiam.

The tyres were loaded onto the bakkie and it drove off while the robbers stayed on site with the man who was tied up.

“The bakkie came back, loaded more tyres and they all fled. The tied up driver came out from under the truck and shouted for the security from the neighbouring company who came and removed the reflector jacket that was used to tie him up and then called the police.”
