Warriors host girls soccer league

The girls from all teams displayed great talent gave each quite the chase for ball possession out on the field.

WENTWORTH Warriors girls took on Crusaders Football Club in a Durban South U17 Girls Development League game held on a warm Saturday morning, 28 September, at Ogle Road Grounds.

Wentworth Warriors’ U17 Keryn Grantham shows some stellar ball skills out on the field.

Two matches were played on the day which saw Wentworth Warriors lose 3-0 to Crusaders and Verity Football Club lose to 0-2 to Crusaders. The girls from all teams displayed great talent gave each quite the chase for ball possession out on the field.

“We officially kicked off the league in July and have have eight teams from all over the Durban South that have been playing in the league every Saturday. We are now in our second round of league games and our aim is to give girls an opportunity to play in a structured league as mostly offered to boys in the sport. We are also planning to have a tournament for the girls to close up the season soon. It is exciting to see the girls in action and to witness their growth and development out on the field. As a coach, it makes me very proud to see how much the girls have improved from when they first started in July. The idea is to develop them in such a way that they may be able to play on national and hopefully international platforms one day,” said Wentworth Warriors coach, Carl Webster.
