#HeritageMonth: Comedy show to celebrate all things authentically Coloured – win double tickets to show

The popular Bruinos at the Bat stand-up comedy show returns for its annual weekend run and promises the hottest comedians in the country with laugh-til-it-hurts punchlines.

SAVE the date! In the spirit of Heritage Month, the popular Bruinos at the Bat stand-up comedy show returns to stage in Durban with a mixed line up of your favourite regulars from the ‘sections’ and some guest comedians.

Staging on Friday, 6 and Saturday, 7 September at the Bat Centre, organiser and East Coast Radio presenter, Neil Green, said the aim of the show is partly to celebrate and share Coloured culture, but mostly for everyone – regardless of race or culture – to just enjoy a night of good laughs with some of the country’s finest comedians.

Bruinos at the Bat has been going for about five years now as a semi-regular event. I can’t say we had any real objectives when we first started out, other than just to do our original style of comedy, our way. Just a space to be really Coloured, and celebrate this,” said Neil.

“We will be our unfiltered Coloured best, so I guess in a way, we will be showcasing our heritage – just not necessarily the best parts,” he joked. On a more serious note, he added: “In a lot of ways it is really a celebration of Coloured culture, with Bruinos at the Bat being one of the only events nationally that recognises Coloured culture. That is equal parts of amazing and sad for me.”

In true Bruino style, one-two bras (a few friends) have been pulled in to add to the festivities. In addition to his own stand-up, Neil said the core crew for this show are comedians Richelieu B, Andrew Hughes, and Spencer Govender.

“There are lots of other Durban comedians who have featured and helped establish this event over the years. It’s not a show that has an established cast, many hands have contributed to its success. Some notable comedians from all over the country have featured over the years as well. This time we have Bongani Dube, who toured with Trevor Noah’s Nation Wild Tour and Tats Nkonzo, the host of SA’s Got Talent as well as one of our favourite comedians in the whole world,” he said.

Bruinos at the Bat runs on Friday, 6 and Saturday, 7 September at 8pm at the Bat Centre Durban, 45 Maritime Place, Victoria Embankment, Durban. Tickets are R100 at the door or via www.quicket.co.za.

WIN: The organisers of this popular comedy show are giving away three double tickets. To enter simply answer this easy question on the I laugh Durban Facebook page: Name any two comedians performing at Bruinos at the Bat.
