Pupils show off impressive soccer skills

Spectators who were present were amazed by the children's soccer skills.

YELLOWWOOD Park Primary School (YPPS) hosted the School ‘n All Soccer Challenge on Wednesday, 28 August.

The aim of the School ‘n All Challenge is to increase participation in sports in younger children. Five schools including the hosts participated in the fun developmental tour, namely Msizi Dube Primary School, Bantuvukani Primary School, Bheka Phambili Primary School and Gijima Primary School. All the schools comprised of U11, U12 and U13 boys and girls soccer teams.  The winning school from each division received a School ‘n All Sponsored trophy.

In the U11 boys final, Msizi Dube Primary won 1-0 against Gijima Primary in the U11 boys’ final. The U12 boys final saw YPPS win 2-0 in a penalty shoot-out against Msizi Dube Primary. YPPS U13 boys also followed suit with a 2-0 win against Bantuvukani Primary in a penalty shoot-out. The YPPS girls mixed age group match against Msizi Dube Primary also ended in a home victory with a final score of 2-0.

“We approached School ‘n All to help fill the void created by a lack of sponsorships in school sports, especially grassroots football. The ages between U7 and U13 are a golden developmental stage when it comes to soccer development.  One of our goals as Yellowwood Park Primary School is to encourage mass participation in sports. We’re very grateful to have the School ‘n All Soccer Challenge as it offers us an opportunity to realise that goal. Sports offers our girls and boys the chance to learn valuable skills such as team-work, dedication, perseverance, tolerance and healthy living. We’re doing our best to promote learning through play.

“Spectators who were present were amazed by the children’s soccer skills. The future of Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana is bright. We’re grateful to the participating schools’ management teams, teachers, coaches and parents as well as the learners who took part in the tournament,” said YPPS principal Bongani Khanyi.

School ‘n All management expressed pride in their partnership with the various schools. The next School ‘n All challenge will take place in September involving schools from uMlazi to be hosted at YPPS.
