Men arrested in Wentworth for possession of suspected stolen property

The suspects were taken to the station and charged for the possession of suspected stolen property.

Members of Wentworth police Vispol Unit, captain Lynton Houston and Mbuso Gumede together with Reservist Khan, were conducting crime prevention duties on Thursday, 15 August when they spotted a white VW Golf parked near the Woodville Road flats under the tree.

“The vehicle was approached and four males seated inside the vehicle jumped out and tried to flee. The officers shouted at them to stop. The males were searched but nothing was found on them. The car mentioned was searched and three laptops one Acer black laptop, one grey HP laptop and one Dell black laptop were seized. The suspects were questioned about possession of these laptops, but failed to give satisfactory answer or accountability,” said Wentworth police spokesperson, captain Mbuso Gumede.

The suspects were taken to the station and charged for the possession of suspected stolen property. They appeared in the Wentworth Court on Friday, 16 August. As a warning to the community of Wentworth, Acting Vispol Commander, captain Lynton Houston said: “Whoever receives suspected stolen property or property stolen from or acquired from business premises or residential premises will be arrested and charged for possession or receiving suspected or stolen property in terms of Section 36 and Section 37 of the Criminal Procedure Act. Members of the community should refrain from being in possession of or receiving any stolen or suspected stolen property. Those arrested will be dealt with accordingly by the court.”

The crime stop number 08600-1011 or 10111 can be used to report theft.
