Wanderers bowlers enjoy Women’s Day fun day

The club's function rooms, tavern, upstairs and downstairs are now fully renovated and available for hire.

Friday, 9 August, saw Durban Wanderers Club host a bowls fun day on Women’s Day.

There was a fair turnout with the spoils going as follows: sportsman’s prize went to Titch Phillips, Colleen Tewarts and Bridgette Conlon. First session went to Wonke Somtseu, Val McCaffrey and Wayne Tewarts on a 2+2. Second session went to Jeff Bolt, Yvonne Rich and Barbara Gordon on a 2+6. Second overall was Mitch Mitchley, Brian Reid and Byron Leuchars on a 4+9 and overall winners where Denis Hearnshaw, Nkozi Shange and Precious Mbele on a 4+14. Sunday, 11 August, saw the monthly breakfast trips take place with the annual Claude Allen trophy also up for grabs. There was some fierce competition, but eventual winners were Steve van Rooyen, Peter Vink and Robbie Spiller on a 4+16. Second overall were Titch Phillips, Geoff Atkin and Yvonne Rich on a 4+10. First session winners were Jeff Bolt, Derek Stevens and Mitch Mitchley on a 2+11, second session went the way of Julie and Shawn Sutherland and Steve Evenwell on a 2+13.

The sportsman prize went the way of Peter Prenger, Rob Philogene and Dave Faifer on a 0 minus a few. The 60/40 board was won by Rina Harper and Steve Evenwell and the whiskey raffle was won by Hanno Blom.

Due to the Friday public holiday the weekly draws were done on Thursday.

The various meat pack winners were: lamb pack – Liz Ferns, beef – Troy Simpkins, pork roast – Jeff Bolt, beef roast – Ian Demmer, chicken pack – Cliffie Waldek, chicken – Zianda Gamede. The R500 snowball was a carry over as Bronwyn Schoonraad was not present. The Friday Lotto was a R840 carry over as no one guessed the correct three numbers drawn.

The club’s function rooms, tavern, upstairs and downstairs are now fully renovated and available for hire. The two squash courts also have some unallocated time slots for members and non-members. Contact the club on 031-462-2320 or pop-in for further enquiries.
