South Coast Rd roadblock reveals hijacking suspect

According to provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, while attempting to flee from the roadblock, the motorist collided with another vehicle and he was trapped in the vehicle.

ON night Thursday, 8 August, police officers were conducting a roadblock along South Coast Road when a motorist attempted to evade police.
According to provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, while attempting to flee from the roadblock, the motorist collided with another vehicle, leaving him trapped in the vehicle.

“Police officers arrested the driver who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured. Police discovered that the vehicle was hijacked at Umbilo earlier that day. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligence driving as well as hijacking. The arrested suspect, 22, is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, 12 August,” said Zwane.
