Crusaders FC win home game at newly launched league

The heat was on between Wentworth's Crusaders FC and Lamontville's Inter United FC, with both sides fiercely defending their team.

IN THE absence of a junior soccer development for girls taking place, Durban South Soccer recently launched a girls U17 development league.

A friendly game kicked off on Saturday, 13 July, between Wentworth’s Crusaders FC and Lamontville’s Inter United FC, with both sides fiercely defending their team, the heat was on. The Crusaders had a good ball possession in the first half, with some impressive defense skills displayed by both sides, with the team managing to get a few goals in. Inter United redeemed themselves in the second half, improving on their goal possession but in the end, the Crusaders’ dominance on the field worked to their advantage as they won the game 4 – 0.

Aimed at promoting sports among young girls, games are played at Ogle Road Ground, Wentworth, every Saturday from 1:30 pm, with extra lessons also on offer and volunteer coaches ready to give of their time and impart knowledge of the game.

“It was decided that a platform to improve girls’ soccer was greatly needed in the area. An eight-team league was created with teams Crusaders FC, Barnsley FC, Inter United FC, Supreme FC, and Warriors FC. Some teams have A and B teams, and it has been really good seeing the improvement they have made,” said co-ordinator, Carl Webster.

He added that there is an exciting girls’ soccer tournament in the pipeline  for the month of August as it is Women’s Month. For information, contact the coordinator Carl on 084 738 4245.
