Montclair officer lauded on successful arrest of suspect on the run for 8 years

Naidoo continued on his quest and kept looking for the suspect until a breakthrough was made.

A PROLONGED murder case has finally been solved and put to rest following the persistence and determination of Montclair police officer, W/O Rico Naidoo who never gave up on apprehending suspect, Jabulani Gwala.
According to Montclair police spokesperson, Captain Derek Vijiam, on 10 November 2009, Mbongeleni Zakhele Khuzwayo was shot and killed whilst on duty at Woodlands Sports Club in Sekker Road, by four unknown black males with an AK-47 rifle.
W/O Wayne Unger of Montclair Detectives was the investigating officer and investigations pointed to a suspect working for a security company in Phoenix. W/O Inggs of the Montclair Field Unit then arrested the suspect, Jabulani Gwala upon finding his cellphone and other belongings, a security guard jacket and handcuffs, in a bushy area near the murder scene. At that time, he was arrested at his place of work and brought to court and released on bail, and absconded while on trial which began in 2010 at the Durban High Court. The case was then handed over to W/O Naidoo to continue with investigations.

Naidoo continued on his quest and kept looking for the suspect until a breakthrough was made on 6 April 2017, where the suspect was arrested in the Greytown area. “The suspect was kept in custody until his trial resumed on Monday, 1 July 2019 at the Durban High Court. On Friday, 5 July 2019 the accused was found guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment,” said Vijiam.
