The group comprising of 21 girls from all around Durban, including the Bluff, participated in the event which was hosted by the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) in East London from 22 to 29 June. There they competed in the President’s League with 10 other teams, where they performed remarkably well according to their coach Shane George. “The girls excelled in the five categories, namely flag group, non-prop, baton, mace and drill,” she said proudly.

The girls train long hours, three times a week including Saturday’s, and it has all proved worthwhile with their recent achievements and further being promoted to the elite league as the cherry on top. “We really look forward to competing with really tough teams from schools all around the country in the elite division next year. Myself, as well as the rest of the coaches, are very proud of our girls. Our aim was to make it to top five, having been in 14th position last year, but the team managed to secure the top three. We never expected them to exceed our expectations as much as they did.
