Mixed bag of results for YWP Football club

The games could have gone either way and was high spirited from both teams and supporters.

YELLOWWOOD Park (YWP) FC All Stars played against Montford Heights FC this past Saturday, 22 June at the YWP Sports Club.
The game could have gone either way and was a high spirited from both teams and supporters. In the second half, YWP All Stars were awarded a free kick from outside the big box and captain Trevor Hardouin stepped up to the challenge. “He took the free kick, got the ball over the wall, beat the keeper and the ball found the back of the net. It was a well taken free kick and during the remainder of the game, YWP All Stars felt the pressure,” explained YWP Football Club coach, Craig Inngs. The official blowing of the final whistle saw Montford claim the overall victory, with a final score of 2 – 3.

On Friday night, 21 June, YWP Falcons FC played against Collegians FC in a fast pace match as part of the Premier Reserve League in Pietermaritzburg. The first half was two goals up and in the second half saw YWP Falcons push a threw ball from the midfield and Njabs Mgobhozi had a one on one with the keeper. “Njabs clipped the ball over the goal keeper’s head as he came out for the ball,” said Craig. Collegians managed to score two goals, however, YWP Falcons held out for the win with Njabs scoring two goals and Kade Streak scoring another, securing a final score of 3 – 2.
Missing four teammates, YWP Eagles were up against Collegians FC on Friday night. “YWP made two mistakes in the first half and Collegians capitalised on these mistakes, scoring two goals both by headers. YWP Eagles had four golden opportunities in the first half to score, but could not convert these opportunities into goals. YWP Eagles did hold possession for long periods and pressed very well,” said Craig. YWP Eagles lost to Collegians FC with a score of 2-0.

“Well done to all the teams even though we did not get the results we wanted. Let’s keep moving forward and improving. Thank you to Collegians FC for hosting us and thank you to Montford Heights FC for visiting YWP FC,” concluded Craig, also thanking all the supporters who travelled up to Pietermaritzburg on Friday night.
