Weekend hikers set their sights on valley views

There is a new hike on the cards for Ramblers on Sunday, 26 May.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club will hike along the parkrun tracks at Infinite Adventure, 15 Wootton Avenue, Botha’s Hill on Saturday, 25 May.

This strenuous grade three hike of about 9km will take hikers down to the dam and up grassy hill near Phezulu with beautiful views of Valley of 1000 Hills. Meet at Pot & Kettle, Botha’s Hill at 1.30pm, before proceeding in convoy to Infinite Adventures.

The hike will start at 2pm. A donation of R20 will be collected. For more information, call hike leader Werner on 084-206-7836.

There is a new hike on the cards for Ramblers on Sunday, 26 May.

Hikers will take a walk through to the top of the beautiful Palmiet Nature Reserve with spectacular cliffs, river, indigenous bush and grassland. A hiking pole is recommended to assist you with various river crossings.

The reserve and river is named after the riverine plant Prionium serratum (palmiet) which was formerly abundant in the area. Optional refreshments and lunch afterwards at Waxy O’ Connors. A R30 donation to reserve is payable. Meet at the Palmiet Nature Reserve, off Old New Germany Road, Westville at 8am. Call hike leader, Linda on 083-353-8319 about this moderate grade three hike of about 10km.
