A team effort to uplift Wentworth

What was once a boys football club back in the day, has now become a group of men who lead by example in bettering their 'beloved Wenties'.

THERE is hope for the community of Wentworth when compassionate leaders come together for its greater good. The partnership of Wentworth Police, Pastor Henry Bailey of Christian Life Ministries and Colchester Rovers All Boys Club, is one such example.

The partnership came about when Johnny Singh, the ambassador of Colchester Rovers noticed the good work that his childhood friend, w/o Les van Niekerk of Wentworth Police was involved in, which includes various community outreach programmes as part of the station’s efforts to help those in need in the community. “Les and I go way back, we grew up in the same neighbourhood and I’d say we’re practically family. As Colchester Rovers, we always want to do our bit to help when our local women and men in blue engage in community projects. We love to help where we can whether it is donating funds or volunteer work,” explained Johnny.

What was once a boys football club back in the day, has now become a group of men who lead by example in bettering their ‘beloved Wenties’. Colchester Rovers have provided local primary schools with much-needed sports equipment, assisted organising a braai for a local care home and collected funds for a lunch for a recent mental health awareness project. The committee of the club now looks forward to engaging in any other worthy initiatives as well as a big Christmas charity event.

Les said that he appreciates all the assistance and sponsorship received from Colchester Rovers and that only good can come from their joint effort. “Johnny and Colchester Rovers partnership with Wentworth Police has had a great impact and improvement to us and those we help in disadvantaged circumstances, he said.
Colchester Rovers is also appealing to the community at large to assist with sponsorship in keeping with their mission to assist those in need in Wentworth and surrounding areas. For more information contact Johnny Singh on 073-633-3684.
