Bluff beach upgrades continue forward

The Bluff beach upgrades continue to move full steam ahead, according to ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo.

THE Bluff beach upgrades continue to move full steam ahead, according to ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo.
In 2013 the city presented the approved urban design framework for the Bluff beach upgrade for the Bluff community. Yet over the last six years barely any work was done to implement this framework due to the lack of resources and commitment from city officials.

Since 2016, Prinsloo has worked closely with the city to resurrect these plans which saw the improvement of the dune located on Anstey’s Beach, the creation of new walkways and the installation of picnic benches.

“Through my engagements with the city, the project has finally seen major development with the appointment of four project managers from the economic development and the architecture departments. The beach upgrades have been broken into four separate projects namely the construction of a boardwalk from Anstey’s to Brighton Beach, the redesign of Foreshore Drive, upgrading of municipal buildings on Anstey’s and Brighton Beach and the construction of an educational centre on Treasure Beach,” said Prinsloo.

The city has appointed Urban Solutions and Arch Urban Plan to complete the architectural designs and packaging for the boardwalk and Foreshore Drive.  The two remaining architectural firms are currently being appointed to complete the designs for the buildings located on Anstey’s and Brighton Beach as well as the educational centre on Treasure Beach. These appointments are set to be completed within the next two weeks.

Throughout the architectural design process we will be consulting various stakeholders to ensure that each design fulfills the needs of both the Bluff community and city officials utilising these facilities.

Once all the designs have been completed and costing to each of the projects have been made, the city will be able to assign budget to each of the projects and start the supply chain management processes to appoint the contractors that will be responsible for the construction of each of the designs.

“The upgrades of Bluff beaches will be a major victory for the Bluff community that has seen these assets along our coastline deteriorating due to poor mainte-nance and the lack of investment from the city.”
