Tips to help cope with the petrol price increase

Check out these useful tips on how to save petrol and in turn save money.

Brace yourself for another petrol increase  as the price for petrol rises by R1.18 a litre and diesel by 90 cents a litre.

According to Automobile Association the petrol increase is due to the increases to the fuel levies and movements in the exchange rates.

It is depressing to hear that petrol is going up, especially when it affects other prices like food. AA has provided a useful list on how to save petrol and in turn save money:

  1. Stick to the speed limits: The obvious one, the faster you go, the quicker you burn petrol. Slow down!
  2. Don’t accelerate harshly: Harsh acceleration contributes to higher fuel consumption
  3. Keep your eyes on the road: By keeping your eyes on the road, and keeping a safe following distance, you can travel at a more constant speed, and avoid harsh braking
  4. Don’t overload your car: More weight in you car puts weight on your engine.
