Amanzimtoti SPCA to build ecobrick classroom

The local shelter urged community members to drop off correctly filled ecobricks at the shelter at 1 Nyati Road, Athlone Park.

AMANZIMTOTI SPCA has announced that it will be accepting and collecting ecobricks, with a view to building a classroom for the youth who visit the EduPaw programme every Saturday morning.

The building of the classroom will take place on Saturday, 4 May from 8am on the shelter’s grounds.

This classroom will see those attending the EduPaw protected from the elements. The local shelter urged community members to drop off correctly filled ecobricks at the shelter at 1 Nyati Road, Athlone Park.

How to correctly fill an ecobrick:

No paper (recyclables) or biodegradable waste (fruit peels) should be used in filling an empty two-litre cold drink bottle. Use a thin, long stick to compress all the plastic until absolutely no more can be fitted inside the plastic bottle. Once you think your ecobrick is full, stand on it. It should not dent or change shape at all. If it does, continue packing it with plastic. If its shape doesn’t change, you’ve created an ecobrick.
