Standing up for the Bluff
That’s what I am doing, regardless of those who think otherwise.
EDITOR – It is a pity that PJW Dev Fourie in his letter, published in the Southlands SUN dated 25 January, construes informed criticism and concern regarding what is afoot in the Bluff valley as some kind of vendetta against the sitting councillor.
Obviously Dev Fourie has not inspected the site in question and therefore has not interrogated the situation objectively.
As a former public representative, I dealt with a great deal of criticism on issues but never construed that as constituting some sort ‘vendetta’.
In the SUN of 18 January, I exposed several serious shortcomings of the proposed ‘oasis’ development in the Bluff valley. To date the ward councillor has not supplied any answers. Those elected to public office are required to be transparent and accountable at all times and to take the rough with the smooth.
The latest shortcoming with this so-called oasis project is that the 18,000 cubic metres of clay are expected to cover a 36,000m2 area. That means the clay depth would be no greater than 500mm thick, which is insufficient to sustain a water basin. Yet on top of that it is proposed to add topsoil, which will ensure a very muddy end result.
Significantly, Cllr Prinsloo’s car has the slogan ‘Stand up for the Bluff’ printed on it. That’s what I am doing, regardless of those who think otherwise.
