Service delivery on Montlands’ radar

Ward 64 councillor Gavin Hegter wants his entire ward to be included in the Durban South Basin ABM.

Although the majority of Montclair, Woodlands and Yellowwood Park in ward 64 currently does not fall within the Durban South Basin Area Based Management (ABM) area, local councillor Gavin Hegter hopes to have the area included, so the community can use the ABM’s services to improve service delivery.
“As the level of service delivery in eThekwini Municipality continues to deteriorate, it becomes more difficult for ward councillors to focus on the major issues, as our time is consumed in the fight for the most basic services that residents of the city are entitled to,” said Cllr Hegter.

Issues such as grass cutting, overgrown weeds in the gutters and road edges, pothole repairs and street light faults should be dealt with by the various departments. In an attempt to have these basic services addressed, Cllr Hegter has formed the ward 64 service delivery forum.
“Representatives from all relevant departments get together to address issues in the ward. I will continue to grow this forum in 2019 to ensure our area receives the appropriate attention. With the high levels of lawlessness on our roads, speed calming measures are increasingly necessary. I have made application for this to be installed on a number of local roads. These will be installed in early 2019,” he assured.

Residents of ward 64 can help in maintaining our area by downloading the Proactive citizen app, as an easy way to report any issues they identify. In light of the elections set to take place in 2019, Hegter urged residents to make use of the voter registration weekend on 26 and 27 January to check they are correctly registered to vote. “I wish all ward 64 residents a successful 2019. Together we can make a difference,” he said.
