Birdsong promised on bush, beach hikes

Durban Ramblers Hiking Club's outings this weekend.

TAKE in the birdsong and stunning scenery of Durban’s surrounds by joining one of Durban Ramblers Hiking Club’s outings this weekend.

On Saturday, 24 November, hikers will venture out into the Virginia Bush in Durban North.

Call hike leader Ilona on 076-912-9829 about this 8km grade two hike. This walk through the Virginia bush will see hikers enjoy old dune forest vegetation and birdsong. Ilona makes good use of many paths, twists and circuits in several parts of Virginia, with a gentle beach walk before drinks at the Wings Club at Virginia Airport. This is your opportunity to see forest, beach and aeroplanes, even a helicopter or two. It promises to make for an interesting afternoon. Meet at 1.45pm at Virginia Airport.

On Sunday, 25 November, hikers remain north of Durban, with a 14km hike from Ballito to Salt Rock with hike leader Margie.

Call her on 073-437-6915 to confirm your attendance at this grade one beach hike which takes in tidal pools and rocky outcrops from Ballito to Salt Rock. Return via the same route or through the suburbs. Take your costume along for a quick dip. There is an optional lunch or drinks afterwards. Meet at 7.30am at Virginia Airport or 8am at Tedder Way, Ballito. Petrol sharing costs about R20.
