Bluff bodyboarder rides the crest of SA champs wave

If you can conquer your mind, no-one can stop you.

BLUFF bodyboarder, Sean Holloway has done his home surf proud by landing two podium finishes at the South African bodyboarding championships from 1 to 5 October.

Holloway placed fourth in the men’s bodyboarding but took first place for drop knee, which had been his main goal all along. “I have been a bodyboarder since the age of 12 years but I only started competing at the age of 26 years. I was hooked after I realised how much peace the ocean brought me,” said Holloway.

The 28-year-old said bodyboarding changed his life for the better. He gets to meet new people and relishes the adventure of discovering a new bodyboarding spot. “You can find inspiration anywhere. The best way to prepare for a competition is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Staying active and having the right diet is key. A lot of my motivation comes from my brother, Clayton Holloway, who is a personal trainer with Movement Matters,” he added.

He advised anyone interested in the sport to get themselves a board and dive into the water. “It’s a challenging yet very rewarding activity. Going for a surf on the weekend takes priority but if there are absolutely no waves, I enjoy spending time on the beach with my mates and dogs,” he said.
Having achieved his goal of being named SA drop knee champion, he has set his sights on successfully defending the title next year for back to back wins, and one day hopes to compete on the APB world tour.
Apart from competing against some of the countries best riders, Sean says he has found the most important battle was the one inside his own head. “If you can conquer your mind, no-one can stop you,” he said.
