Fairvale Secondary pupils empowered through mentorship

The initiative was aimed at grade 11 girls at the school, with its mission to empower young women through mentorship

THE Going Global empowerment initiative was successfully launched at Fairvale Secondary School in Wentworth on Saturday, 1 September.
The launch event was the brainchild of Nerina Meth whose efforts saw a group of 30 Fairvale girls being hosted, pampered and inspired by a dedicated team of volunteers who are all former Fairvale pupils.
The initiative was aimed at grade 11 girls at the school, with its mission to empower young women through mentorship. The mentors are all alumni of Fairvale Secondary School, who are in leadership or professional roles in their careers and will offer their time and experience to invest in the girls and support the beneficiaries of this initiative in their individual pursuits.

“The initiative recognises that we can only empower our girls, family, community, city and ultimately our country one initiative at a time. So we start at home with our girls who will one day become mothers, wives and perhaps professionals or leaders in our community” said Meth.
She aims to reach the hearts of the girls in order to relay the message that regardless of where they come from, through hard work, commitment and focus, their dreams can be achieved. This initiative is about hope and inspiring young girls with the potential to dream big, believe in themselves, and know that they have big sisters who will support them along the way.

The fun-filled event saw mentors sharing their personal journeys with the young women, inspiring and reminding them that their dreams are achievable. They were taught about the benefits of networking, letting go of insecurities and building sisterly bonds.
“The day surpassed any expectations we had and it was refreshing to see how eager the girls were about being part of this initiative. As mentors, we are equally excited about sharing this journey with them,” said Meth.
