Tertiary students host fun ‘Olympics’ for Wentworth school

Trophies were awarded in five categories.

AUSTERVILLE Primary School experienced its very own Olympics, thanks to physical education and sports students from Embury College who spent months of planning and fundraising to allow the grade two and three pupils a day of fun activities on Wednesday, 12 September.

The pupils were divided into five ‘worlds’ to participate in the competition.

Animal World, Sea World, Cartoon World, the Four Elements and Forest World represented the five rings of the Olympic symbol and the pupils proudly wore their colour printed shirts to indicate which ‘world’ they were in.
In true Olympic fashion, the pupils entered the arena by uniting their torches for the games to begin.
The three-legged race, pool noodle javelin, egg and spoon race, hockey and soccer dribbling and ring toss were some of the activities which saw the worlds notch up points on the scoreboard. The pupils moved from one event to the next with a few dance breaks and team war cries in between.

The joy on the faces of the pupils was rewarding enough for all the hard work put into the project.
The third-year students of Embury thanked all sponsors, especially Spur and other roleplayers who contributed to making the fun day a successful and memorable occasion.
