Chairman appeals for Montclair CPF nominees

We are a structure which works and partners with Montclair SAPS.

CHAIRMAN of Montclair Community Policing Forum (CPF), Aaron Nyadi encourages community members and organisations to participate in community safety programmes and become involved in what is happening in their suburbs.

With elections of the executive committee around the corner, Nyadi stressed the importance of community involvement, especially in the nominations for the available positions.
Positions which have become available are for deputy chairman, deputy secretary and public relations officer. “There are nomination forms available at Montwood library in Montclair Mall and at Montclair SAPS. We invite all nominations of residents who live in the policing area, have no political affiliation, must be conversant and hands-on. We are a structure which works and partners with Montclair SAPS. Being part of the CPF gives residents an opportunity to represent their communities and help in the awareness and combat of crime,” said Nyadi.

The CPF is trying to rebuild the relationship between community and SAPS and to promote and maintain the relationship.

“We are not supervisors of the police but our role is to work with them, to make sure our communities are well represented and given a voice. We are the eyes and ears of the police and the community,” he added.

The CPF plans to hold quarterly meetings which he encourages the community to attend. He advises people not to wait for the annual meeting to bombard the police with questions but rather forward any concerns to the CPF which operates under an open door policy. The public should also attend sector meetings. “This is our challenge – community participation is low and the executive structure does not have a youth representative. These issues need to be addressed. Another problem we have is that Woodlands and Montclair do not have a sector forum which urgently needs to be established. Right now we want the public to attend the meeting on 12 June at 6pm at the recreational hall,” he added.
