The day celebrates and pays tribute to people who directly contribute to the production of literature material.

WORLD Book Day on Monday, 23 April bookmarked the global love for books as an initiative to bring reading back into lives of children.
Montlands librarians visited pre-school, Kidz Care Pre School to encourage reading at the school.

“Due to the lack of reading among young people these days, we should start inculcating an interest in books and the love for reading among the very young. For this reason, Montlands library staff chose to celebrate World Book Day in this way,” said librarian, Lionel Reddy.

“The platform also offers an opportunity to support local authors, especially those writing in indigenous languages, as we are in dire shortage of books written and published in indigenous languages.”
