JUST IN: Wentworth heroin bust sees 1,500 capsules seized

It was established that the man was supplying drugs to other dealers

A WENTWORTH drug dealer was arrested yesterday (Tuesday, 27 February) for possessing heroin capsules worth R47,000.

Members of the police’s provincial drug unit team conducted an operation in the area, when they received information about a man who was going to deliver drugs in one of the Silvertree Road flats.

The team members kept observation on the premises for a few minutes before entering the building. A 26-year-old was searched and found with over 1,500 capsules of heroin. About R5,900, which was suspected to be cash proceeds from drug sales, was also confiscated from the alleged drug dealer.

During the raid it was established that the man was supplying drugs to other dealers in the Wentworth and Merebank areas. He was charged for dealing in and possession of drugs. He will appear in the Wentworth Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday, 1 March).

“The team has proved we are committed to cleaning our streets of drug lords. We also appreciate the information we received from the community about people who are dealing in drugs,” said KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
