Montclair dog poisoned

"We had to make the decision to put her down"

JUST a day after his car was broken into, a Montclair man was hit again, but this time in the heart when his beloved German Shepherd died after suspected poisoning.

Bruce Le Cordier who described his dog Amber as loyal, playful and a great retriever of things, said the six-year-old German Shepherd succumbed to her ailment on Thursday 22 February.

The owner suspect the poison was thrown into their yard.

What was supposed to be a normal run with Bruce and his two dogs quickly turned to tragedy when the six-year-old collapsed during the run.

“She was drinking lots of water that day but I brushed it off as a bit of heat exhaustion. I did not think it was something as bad as poison. Half an hour later we were at the vet where it was confirmed that Amber had been poisoned. We had to make the decision to put her down,” he said.

“We’ve had her for her whole life, and her death was not in vain. She did her job and gave her life for it and she protected me and my family. This will be a huge loss in our lives,” he added.

Bruce urges people to be aware that there are those whose ill intent to harm you and yours knows no boundaries. “It’s unfortunately the world we live in but we have to be prepared for it,” he added. He suggested dog owners carry charcoal tablets. Activated charcoal is used in the emergency treatment of certain kinds of poisoning. It helps prevent the poison from being absorbed from the stomach into the body.
