Durban South gets behind #DayZero water collection drive

When you shower in the morning or drink a cup of water, you cannot help to think to yourself about the Capetonians

A GREAT nation is a nation that stands together when in time of need, and for Cape Town that time is now as they scramble to save every drop of water before they reach Day Zero, a day when their taps will run dry.

The state of emergency and nationwide call has been heard by the communities of Durban South, Yellowwood Park and Bluff who have allocated areas in which will be drop-off zones for thousands of litres of water. This will be picked up and delivered to Cape Town by the The Gift of the Givers Foundation.

Clive Smith and Nadene Lotz, responsible for the Yellowwood Park Sports Club water drop-off point said this is a good cause to get behind.

“When you shower in the morning or drink a cup of water, you cannot help to think to yourself about the Capetonians who do not have this luxury, this simple human right. Now we ask residents of Montclair, Yellowwood Park and Woodlands to open hearts and help us collect water for this drough-stricken city,” said Nadene.

The situation in Cape Town is something that can’t be fixed within a week and the citizen’s are trying anything to save water such as having a sponge bath with a small bucket and sponge, filling toilet cisterns with water rather than pour into toilet, using grey water for this. Using vinegar in the toilet and drains to help with any odours and bacteria. “They should not be in this struggle alone, they shouldn’t feel like they are alone. So we urge every resident in the communities to donate at least one 5 litre of water, it’s not very expensive. We have until 9 February to fill up the hall in the Sports Club, Let’s be good neighbours of Cape Town and support their cause,” added Smith.
