Police respond to Montclair burglary spike

Festive seasons operations are still ongoing throughout January

CRIME did not take a break this festive season with criminals doing their rounds in the Montclair SAPS precinct, with housebreaking increasing drastically.
A spike in housebreakings was experienced in the last week of 2017 and on New Year’s Day on Monday with nine reported cases.

Montclair SAPS spokesman Capt Dereck Vijiam urged residents to be exra vigilant this year and to place more emphasis on security. “This festive season the criminals knew families were leaving their homes for the holidays and so use they used that opportunity to strike. Festive seasons operations are still ongoing throughout January,” he said.

Montclair SAPS has made arrests for drunk driving almost every weekend during the festivities. Good arrests were also made for drugs and drinking in public.
