Van Rooyen’s team claims 69th Dan Draper honours

Worthy winners lost only one game the whole week

WANDERERS Bowling Club reports that the winners of last week’s Warwick Dan Draper were Steve van Rooyen and his team of Dave Le Roux, Dave Arnold and Noel Morel, who lost only one game the whole week.

Second was Rob Armstrong and his Mdumbi Shellhole team, followed closely by the Airforce Base Durban team, and then Dudley Dorrofield’s team in fourth place.

The monkey prize eventually went to Kurt Spack’s team after a closely fought battle with William Richardson and his side.

The women’s section was won by Joan Bruce and her side of Cynthia van der Merwe, Debbie Nortjie, Michelle Nortjie and Natalie Botha. Dorreen Salmon and her side finished second after leading most of the way. Third place went to Stella Erasmus and her side and in fourth place was defending champions Lynne Watson and her side.

The women’s monkey prize went the way of Joyce Mackrory’s side. Congratulations to all.

The mid-week R1,000 draw was held while the Cape Town-based Goodwood side were preparing the annual snoek braai. Many thanks to them and well done to winners Lorainne Du Preez and Robin Grobler, who shared the R1,000. The Wild Coast raffle for a mid-week stay for two was drawn around 8pm on Friday, while the remaining crowd was being entertained by DJ Kyle. Phil Gorman’s name was drawn out of the hat, so well done to him.

A special thanks to the entire team who assisted throughout the week, it was a great effort.

Friday’s various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack – Russell Knott, beef – Jeff Cronje, pork roast – Cliffie, rump – Cliffie, chicken pack – Lofty, chicken – Shane Parkins.

The R600 snowball was won by Eric Smit. Friday’s lotto was a carry over of R370. Richard and Anthony had the chance to locate the joker again, but were again foiled. The pool is now in the region of R11,500.

Saturday saw the end of the men’s interclub bowls league. Although the first side lost to Hillcrest 6-1, the B side secured a 7-0 win against Le Domaine, and the C side managed a 2-5 loss. With William Richardson, Colin Howes, Robbie Spiller and Brian Deats securing a 21-18 win, the C side avoided relegation. Well done to all the league bowlers, it was a great season.

 

Men’s Dan Draper winners are Dave Arnold, Noel Morel, Steve van Rooyen and Dave Le Roux, with tournament official Jeff Bolt.

Wanderers also hosted the seventh Ink and Iron on Saturday and the event was a great success with hundreds of people attending the annual event.

Sunday saw the Claudie Allan trophy being contested at the breakfast trips, but as Lofty Cawthorne had to leave early, it was not presented.

Lofty and his side of Robbie Carr and Clive Symons won on a 4+28 from second placed Doug Moore and his Hillary team on a 4+23. Third place went the way of Norman Moore, Colin Nicholas and Tommy Cloete on a 4+15. Arnie Harper, Tommy Simpkins and Claude Newman picked up the first session on a 2+14 while second session went the way of Titch Phillips, Geoff Atkin and Felicity Finestone on a 2+11. Overall sports for the day were Mike Flack, Ronnie Hook and jet-setter Jeff Cronje on a 0 minus a good few. Well done to all.
