Wentworth BC greens team takes breakfast trips spoils

The Bluff Meat men’s bowls played on Friday morning was won by Graham Bransby, Alex Kinnear and John Minnaar.

THE Chicken Shack pairs played at Wentworth Bowling Club last Wednesday was won by the women’s side made up of Julie Sutherland and Nita Neuman who built up a shot difference of plus 26.

In second place were Gary Moffat and Lilah Nel and second session prize was won by Herby Roux and Ben Venter.

The meat roast raffle went the way of Gerald C Royle. Two 60/40 boards were drawn – the first went to Honey Kitchenbrand with Robbie Carr taking the second prize. The second board saw Tom Cloete make a clean sweep by choosing both the numbers drawn from the bag. The next Chicken Shack pairs competition will be played on Wednesday, 26 July.

Prizes in the Rawsons breakfast trips were contested for on Thursday morning. It was a home side comprising the Wentworth green’s team of Luvuyo Ndava, Moses Nuba and Dave Carroll that took top spot on the podium. In second place were Alan Bower, Rob Armstrong and Alex Kinnear. Second session prize went to Greg Dorrofield, Jorge Santos and Deon Maritz. Ann Bonthrone was the happy recipient of the raffled whiskey and Bridget White and Andy Jones each won a bottle of Rawsons red wine. Dave Rowe and Honey Kitchenbrand were winners on the first 60/40 board and Dawn Spack and Maria Cavanagh shared the spoils from the second board.

Time constraints did not allow the accumulated scores to be calculated before prize giving after the bowls. This will be done at the next Rawsons breakfast trips on Thursday, 27 July.

The sportsmen’s prize went to Ken Thomas, Dave Carroll and Henry Welgemoed. Julia Venter proved that it is worthwhile to support the men on the green when she heard her number called to give her the raffled pork roast. Jumbo Nel was rewarded for his attendance by winning the beef roast. The first 60/40 board was won by Butch Ellis and Steve Baker and the second board went to Kitty Schaefer and Lee Marais.

Good bowling wishes are extended to all teams playing in the last round of the league on Saturday afternoon.
