Sister snatches unlicensed gun haul from her Wentworth sibling

He will re-appear in Wentworth court on Wednesday, 5 April.

A FIGHT could have ended deadly if a family member didn’t intervene, resulting in the police’s intervention on Wednesday, 29 March.

It is alleged that a 50-year-old man visited his sister in Wentworth while highly intoxicated and carrying a suspicious-looking bag.
“A fight broke out between the 50-year-old and another man. The sister began to pull at the bag he was carrying as she grew suspicious of what it contained,” said Wentworth SAPS communication officer, Capt Mbuso Gumede.
Another sibling saw what was happening and ran to the police to report the fight.
When police officers arrived at the scene, the sister handed over the bag.
It was opened up in front of the three siblings. “The man was carrying a  pistol and live ammo, a rifle with an extended magazine, more ammunition and a broken magazine,” said Gumede.
The middle-aged man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, unlicensed ammunition and failing to safeguard firearms. He has been remanded at Westville prison, pending a bail application. He will re-appear in Wentworth court on Wednesday, 5 April.
