Illegal posters torn down

The campaign will be ongoing.

ILLEGAL signposters beware – you are no longer welcome in ward 66.

Nearly 400 illegal posters were removed on the Bluff on Sunday, 19 February.

“Illegal signs plastered all over our community are making our beautiful city look dirty and shabby. By cleaning up these signs we aim to clean up our area,” said ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo, who embarked on a campaign to remove the signs with the aid of community volunteers.

This was the first of a series of campaigns to tackle the eyesores. With seven volunteers, Prinsloo was able to remove 380 illegal signs.

“Simply removing a sign is a temporary solution and does not mean this issue will be resolved.”

To ensure these signs are not a problem in the future, a list of names and contact numbers from the illegal signs was created, which will be sent to the signage department for prosecution.

This campaign is being orchestrated in partnership with wards 63 and 65, representing Queensburgh, Northdene, Moseley and Nirvana Hills and Hillary, Malvern, Seaview and Bellair respectively.

“By uniting these three communities we are taking a stand aimed to protect our local businesses that abide by the city’s by-laws and legislation in terms of advertising. By removing these illegal signs we uplift and improve the appearance of our communities.”

The next removal campaign will be on Saturday, 4 March.
