The unknown suspects broke into the secured building by breaking the door lock.

SCHOOLS in Montclair are been targeted by burglars who have hit two learning institutions in the space of a few days this week.

On Friday, 17 February criminals had a field day at Mowat Park High School when they made off with a speaker, copper pipes, window levers and other items over the weekend. “The unknown suspects broke into the secured building by breaking the door lock. The principal was informed by the cleaner who noticed the speaker which was mounted on the wall was missing as well as copper pipes from the toilets and window levers from the classrooms.

Mowat Park is no stranger to crime as the school has been targeted before when 18 new computers valued at R200,000 were stolen last March.

Down the road from the high school, Montclair Junior Primary was broken into on Tuesday, 21 February. It was reported a radio and 20 litre containers was stolen after a door to one of the classrooms were broken. “The principal said she left the caretaker at the school to lock all the classrooms and activate the alarm. They returned the next day to find the classroom had been broken into,” said Montclair SAPS communications officer, Cpt Dereck Vijiam.
