Stainbank WI learns from NSRI speaker

Stainbank WI's next meeting will be the AGM so attend and if possible, offer your service.

STAINBANK Women’s Institute’s first meeting of the year was opened by its president Arlene Greenfield with a big, warm welcome to all members for the new year.

After the singing of Unity, apologies were given and it was with regret that the president read out a letter of resignation from very long-time member Maureen Bailey.

She was wished well, thanked for all her service over the many years and hope was expressed to see her at some meetings during the year.

The minutes were read and the finance report given. Stainbank WI is solvent. Fees are now due by all members. The committee has decided to make another very long term member Elizabeth Keith, an honorary member of the WI. The new annual booklets are out and ready at R5 each. Many thanks to Linda Hewer for printing them.

WI hopes lots of members read the competitions and decide to enter this year. The WI has been donated a knife made by an incredible craftsman as a donation and a raffle. One member gave the good news that 770 (and still counting) mittens have been donated to the Seafarers Association. After tea, the speaker for the morning was Janet Burgess from the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) who gave an interesting talk and slideshow on the incredible work they do. What is amazing is that all members are volunteers who practise every week and continually put their lives at risk to save others. All the birthdays and anniversaries were read out with greetings to all.
