After the Black Friday frenzy and spend tomorrow, motorists will have to tighten their belts even more and learn new ways to save petrol to avoid going bankrupt at the petrol station.
The natural reaction for the normal South African is to queue up before midnight and fill their tanks. But do you ever stop to think, what else can be done to save money and petrol?
BE SMART:
- Don’t drive like you on the race track, the faster you go the quicker your fuel burns. So slow it down and take it easy on the roads.
- Make sure your car is in good shape. An ill-maintained car can lead to you wasting petrol. Have your car serviced regularly.
- Lose some weight: Not you! The car – a heavy load puts pressure on the car thus using more petrol.
- Close your window: It is believed that opened windows while driving is a factor in losing petrol faster.
- Check your tyres: Tyre pressure can play a role in you losing petrol.
BE CREATIVE:
- Mobile karaoke – Car pool: Not only are you saving petrol as well as wear and tear on your car, you are making friends who probably have the same taste in music as you. (talk about roadie musical).
- Munch time – Pack your own lunch: This way you will not be tempted to drive to the shop and buy food. It’s a win-win for your pocket.
- King of the house – Build a fort: Your children won’t have to go the park because you turned your home into one, that means no petrol used. Now you have more money to go on a holiday.
- Mad about Techno – Use the joys of technology. Avoid traffic and road rage by shopping online.
