Steve, Wonki sizzle in Wanderers BC any pairs

SUNDAY saw the Wanderers Bowling Club bowlers enjoy another great day of bowls during the monthly any pairs.

Winners were Steve van Rooyen and Wonki on a 4 +23, followed by Terrance McGlynn and Clive Symons on a 4+18 who claimed second on a count out from third placed Mike and Jackie Freeman.

Session winners were Robbie Carr and Tommy Simpkins in the first and Barry and Geanne in the second. The sportsman’s prize was claimed by Jeff Bolt and Russell Shepherd. The 60/40 board was won by Mike Flack (R40) and Steve van Rooyen (R20).

The bowls section’s annual AGM on Saturday was preceded by a healthy turn-out at the tabs in. The scribe thanks outgoing president Mike Flack and his past committee for all their efforts throughout the year. It is highly appreciated.

Richard Hendicott was voted in as the new president with Tommy Simpkins as his vice. Well done to them and the members who were voted into the relevant posts.

Taffy’s pairs was hosted on Wednesday with overall winners being Eric Smit and Bob Hayward. First session went to Dennis Gericke and Andy Cloete, with Chris Pozyn and Chad winning the second session. The 60/40 board was claimed by Ken Thomas and Chris Pozyn. Rex Meyer claimed the rump steak meat draw. The lotto was another carry-over.

Friday’s club snowball of R1,300 was a carry-over as Brian Stevens was absent. The various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack – Mike Hussey, rolled beef – Tommy Simpkins, pork roast – Derek Rowsell, rump – Clive Symons, chicken pack – Porky, chicken – Clive Symons.

The lotto was a carry-over of R280 with winning numbers 3-5-9 not being taken. The weekly joker draw was another consolation winner with Mike Hussey claiming the R50, and the potential prize is now over R9,800.

Players are reminded of the men’s fours final which is to be played on Saturday at 1pm – Robin Grobler, Peter Prenger, Wonki, Tommy Simpkins versus Steve van Rooyen, Titch Philips, Dennis Hearnshaw and Robbie Spiller.
