More than 4,000 Comrades 2017 athletes sign up

South African runners will be eligible for the ‘early bird’ entry fee of R420 if their entries are received before 30 September 2016.

RUNNERS are gearing up for the 92nd edition of the Comrades Marathon next June, as more and more get their entries in to guarantee their spot on the start line of the 47th Comrades up-run.

Nearly 4,300 entries for the 2017 Comrades Marathon have been received since the entry process opened on 1 September.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that the UK leads the pack of international entrants with 101 entries.

The 92nd edition of the world famous Comrades Marathon will be run on Sunday, 4 June 2017. The three-month long entry process will close on 30 November or as soon as the entry cap of 20,000 has been reached. Prospective entrants are encouraged to get their entries in early to avoid disappointment.

Entry fees for the 2017 Comrades Marathon are:

  • Early bird: R420 (month of September for SA athletes only)
  • Local entries: R460
  • Rest of Africa: R770
  • International: R2,650

CMA race director, Rowyn James said: “We urge local South African runners to take advantage of the ‘early bird’ entry fee of R420 during the month of September. The regular South African entry fee of R460 will kick in on 1 October until the entry process is closed.”

Entry is free to all runners who have completed the Comrades Marathon 25 times or more.
