Miss Wentworth to empower young girls

MISS Wentworth 2016 will be held on Friday, 2 September at 6pm.

The Wentworth Community are urged to support the fundraising event which takes place at Austerville Community Hall.

The pageant, which is an initiative started by community upliftment programme, Girlzone, will be raising funds for each of the Girlzone members to attend an empowerment camp. The last successful Miss Wentworth was held in 2014 and enabled 30 girls to attend the camp.

Girlzone is an organisation where young girls can be in a girl-only environment where topics such as dating, independence, purity and relationships are addressed. A lot of community work is done through the organisation such as hosting tea parties for the senior citizens at John Dunn home, fun days at St Monica’s Home and much more. This was implemented to ensure the girls understood the importance of giving back to the community and those in need.

This programme is hosted by dedicated committee members Lindsay Rose, Jolene Williams and Kaylene Van der Haar who want to see change take place in every young girl’s life in the Wentworth community and surrounding areas.

Girlzone asks the community to come out and support the event and help boost each contestant’s confidence levels as well as to have a look at the work they are doing in the lives of the girls.
