‘Buying stolen goods promotes theft’

The purchasing of stolen goods is a crime and also a crime generator

BUYING stolen goods creates more crime, warns Brighton Beach SAPS as the station hosted an awareness campaign on Friday, 26 August.

“The purchasing of stolen goods is a crime and also a crime generator. The bigger the demand to purchase stolen goods, the greater the increase in property related crimes within an area,” said media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

The Brighton Beach SAPS division media monitoring and liaison team took to the streets to hand out 1,000 flyers in a bid to create awareness on the consequences of selling and purchasing stolen goods.

“Community members are urged to make anonymous report on those individuals and groups who are purchasing and selling stolen items,” added Capt Le Roux.
