Reader burnt by tar contractor

I was not at home to witness the job being done but paid him the complete amount due to him.

EDITOR – I would like to warn your readers who intend to do tarmac driveways and resurfacing of their existing driveways to be cautious when hiring a contractor who regularly advertises in this tabloid.

I had this person give me a quote to resurface my existing driveway and completely redo the section on the pavement which was breaking up with new crusher run and rolled tar kerbs at the sides.

I was not at home to witness the job being done but paid him the complete amount due to him. To my surprise, less than a month later grass was protruding from the newly paved area in the pavement. I called the contractor to notify him about the problem who then became rude to me, stating it was not his problem to poison the soil before resurfacing the area. He does not want to come out and inspect his job which is not to my satisfaction but insists that I pay him a call-out fee of R500 which I refuse to pay. He has to date not returned my call or the change that he owes me and does not seem to be interested in fixing up my driveway.
