Newly appointed councillor strives to serve community

"My goal is to get residents the service they are entitled to."

RESIDENTS within ward 64 have welcomed newly appointed ward councillor, Gavin Hegter who succeeds former DA councillor Billie Prinsloo following the return of the ward under the DA, as per the outcome of last week’s local government election.

Hegter is a former pupil of New Forest High. His heart lies within the community, which provides him with greater resolve to serve and give back to it. “I’ve always been involved in the community. I started up a neighbourhood watch in my area and I have been part of the ratepayers association as well as the community policing forum (CPF). For years I’ve been active and I have made it my goal to become councillor of the ward,” said Hegter. Under the careful guidance of former councillor Billie Prinsloo, Hegter learnt the ropes over five years before finally being ready to run.

Now that he has achieved his lifetime goal, Hegter has already put in place long-term goals for ward 64. “My goal is to get residents the service they are entitled to. I am prepared for the challenges that I may face down the path but I have a great support base and with continuous mentoring with Billie, I am well prepared to make my community great. People have seen over the years what I can do and what I have done, which proves I can deliver,” he added.
He urges the community to take pride in the area. “We need to alleviate issues such as illegal dumping and drugs in the area. There are laws for a reason and I will make sure these will not be bent. We all need to be actively involved in eradicating the problems in our area together,” he said.

Hegter describes himself as passionate, committed and strong-willed, qualities which he will instil in his work as a councillor. The avid conservationist and diver assured the community that they are in good hands.
