Six of Bluff BC’s best make PN masters

These games were played in difficult weather conditions, but as this sport is not only for sunny days when members sign up for competitions, it must be expected that games cannot always be played in ideal conditions.

THURSDAY’s monthly Diving Bell pairs played at Bluff Bowling Club was won by Kurt and Dawn Spack.

First session went to Dudley and June and second session was won by Norman and Ken.

The 50/50 board was won by Phyllis and Julia won the raffle. The club thanks Lilah Nel for her sponsorship.

Friday night’s attendance was not won, as Glynis Mackrory had her tab drawn but she was not present. Next week this jackpot is worth R900 – one can only wonder how high it will climb this month.

The 100 club draw for July was won by June Foster. Second was Allen Ritchie and third Chrissie Smith.

On Saturday, a number of club competitions were played. The women’s drawn pairs saw June Foster and Lilah Nel beat Sarie Bisset and Paula Osman. Bridget White and Phyllis Maritz went through on a walk-over against Daphne Reinhardt and Dawn Spack.

The men played senior singles, where Dudley Dorrofield beat Kurt Spack, but then Dudley lost to Harvey Simpkins. Eddie Human beat Robbie Johnston, so the two players facing off in the final are Harvey and Eddie. This date has not yet been decided.

As usual, Sunday was taken up with mixed games, and this week it was drawn pairs. Gary Moffet and Ronel Morel beat Chris Pozyn and Kitty Schaffer, Lilah Nel and Kurt Spack beat Eddie Human and Paula Osman, June Foster and Noel Morel beat Dave le Roux and Phyllis Maritz, Spider Williams and Dawn Spack beat Dudley Dorrofield and Patricia Buys and lastly, Bridget White and Steve Baker beat Brian Osman and Elsie Gill. Again there was a walk-over in this competition, giving Glynis Mackrory and Rodger Scott the win against Janice Rodgers and Deon Els. These games were played in difficult weather conditions, but as this sport is not only for sunny days when members sign up for competitions, it must be expected that games cannot always be played in ideal conditions. What is sad is that so often players withdraw from club competitions for the poorest of excuses, however, when playing in sponsored games where there is prize money involved, they are happy to play no matter what nature throws at them.

The club is proud of the six players selected for the Port Natal masters, starting this coming Friday. They are wished the very best of bowling but above all enjoy the experience. Only 64 players in the whole of the district are selected and from the Bluff Bowling Club, there are six which is a good average, and an acknowledgement of the quality of the club’s players.

Because of the masters, there will be no women’s competitions this weekend, and the men will be playing nominated and drawn pairs.

Members and fellow bowlers from clubs around the area who partake in the club’s sponsored tournaments are advised that one of the greens will possibly be closing on 9 August for general repair. This will limit the number of players the club can accommodate, so matches will be played on first come first served basis.
