Scenic views in store for weekend hikers

There's no better mix of rural tranquility, bits of industry and river crossings.

DURBAN Ramblers Saturday and Sunday hiking programme for this coming weekend includes a visit to Isithumba (Old Baldy) on Saturday, 4 June.

Call hike leader Abdullah on 084-478-6779.

Isithumba is a difficult hike and not for the unfit but the views are worth the effort. Hikers are to meet at the Assagay Hotel at 1.30pm (note the earlier time) to drive to Isithumba. A R20 per person fee will be given to Durban’s Green Corridor Project. This hike is graded five or difficult, with steep hills and some scrambling. It also carries a vertigo warning.

On Sunday, 5 June take a hike to Hammarsdale falls.

Call hike leader Margie Forbes on 073-437-6915.

There’s no better mix of rural tranquility, bits of industry and river crossings. This hike also allows a good view of the falls. Meet at 8am at Union Main Centre, 45 Old Main Road, Pinetown or at Assagay Hotel (7 Kassier Road, Shongweni) parking at 8.15am and proceed to the start of the hike. Petrol sharing costs R15. This 19km hike is graded three.
