YOUR business may well need to be registered under the Second-Hand Goods Act

“It is concerning that individuals are purchasing and selling items that are categorised as second-hand goods while are not being registered under the Second-Hand Goods Act,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

According to Capt Le Roux, all antique dealers; auctioneers; charity organisations; communication or electronic equipment dealers; general dealers; household goods repair dealers; vehicle, vehicle parts or accessories dealers; vehicle repairers; panel beaters; pawn brokers; recyclers; scrap metal dealers; second-hand book dealers and tyre dealers must be registered.

“An application form to register as a second-hand goods dealer or recycler in terms of the Second-Hand Goods Act (6 of 2009) can be obtained from the designated official dealing with second-hand goods dealers at the police station in which area they intend to conduct business from.

The application forms can also be sourced from the SAPS official webpage at www.saps.gov.za,” said Capt Le Roux.
