Bus strike ends

Wages have been paid and drivers have returned to work.

THE city-wide Transnat bus strike came to a halt last week, following intervention by the municipality.

During a meeting on Wednesday, 13 January eThekwini Municipality agreed to step in and pay the Transnat employees who had not yet received their December salaries and bonuses.

“This issue affects communities, which was why we had to intervene,” said city manager, Sibusiso Sithole.

In future the municipality along with an independent administrator will work with Transnat to ensure finances are managed properly and salaries are paid on time.

Following the payment of salaries, the bus service resumed late last week.

The municipality apologises to commuters for the inconvenience caused during the interruption of the service.
