Tip-off campaign sheds light on crime reporting

Crime tip-off lines enables a person to make a report anonymously

AS part of their pre-festive season safety campaign, Brighton Beach SAPS last week handed out brochures explaining safe ways for community members to report crimes.

On Friday, 13 November communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux and Reservist Captain Avril Fabré took to local malls to hand out the brochures.

“The South African Police Service relies on communities to participate in our awareness initiatives to support the fight against crime. The utilisation of the crime tip-off lines enables a person to make a report anonymously on an individual or individuals breaking the law,” said Capt Le Roux.

Reports only need to include the name of the person or a description thereof, the place, time and type of crime. SMS the police hotline on 32211, visit www.crimeline.co.za, or call Crime Stop on 08600-10111.

“Brighton Beach SAPS management extend their appreciation to Bluff Towers and Hillside Mall for providing the platform for the campaign,” said Capt Le Roux. The station’s management team also thanked Reservist Capt Fabré and Capt Le Roux for the vehicle and foot patrols and mall visits while campaigning to encourage the use of tip-off options.
