Library upskills Montclair youths

With these skills, it will be easier for people to finds jobs

MONTLANDS Library is providing skills to youngsters in the community to to improve their chances of finding jobs.

“Because of the unemployment situation we saw a need to provide skills to the unemployed, especially the youth,” said librarian, Lionel Reddy.

In partnership with professional trainer, Lynn Garnham, who is offering her services free, the library is teaching 12 unemployed youngsters from the community.

“The eight week course will provide them with adequate computer knowledge to function and get employment. We got the names from the local youth committee, who were compiling a list of unemployed youngsters at the time,” said Reddy.

“We need to get the youth to understand that learning is fun and computers are crucial for jobs. With these skills, it will be easier for people to finds jobs,” said Garnham.

The library’s first group of 12 began their course on Monday, 2 November and a second group of youngsters will be hosted in January.
