The 30-year-old mother of two said she feels blessed to be alive and is grateful for the support she received after being shot on Friday, 4 September.
The bullet, which could have claimed her life, could not be removed, and she now thinks of it as her lucky charm.

“I remember everything about that night. I was in the driveway when all of a sudden there was someone at the window – there was no-one in the road when we arrived. As I looked he shot me, then told me to get out. I couldn’t, so he pulled me out and threw me to the floor.

While I was lying there I was praying for my life. I knew I couldn’t die because of my children. I wanted to be there for them,” she said as she thanked the paramedics who arrived quickly and kept her calm as they worked on her in the ambulance.

Musk was discharged from eThekwini Hospital on Friday, 2 October and will recover at home for the remainder of the year. She said she is taking it easy and has to undergo physical therapy twice a week for her right arm, which was injured during the shooting.

Her mouth is still partially wired and doctors will be looking at separating the top and bottom later this week, depending on her recovery.

Her family, especially her children, are excited to have her home. “Every day my children come to me first thing in the morning and tell me they love me. I feel blessed to be alive; the surgeon said it was a miracle. And I am blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life – friends, family and clients.”

A reward is being offered by Tactical Security for information leading to an arrest. Call Brighton Beach SAPS with any details. “People never think it will happen to them. We all think we are safe, but we must be aware. Don’t be naïve – look around you and make sure you are safe,” she added.

She said she has always been a positive person and this has only reaffirmed that. “I will cherish each day that I get to be with my loved ones. Thank-you to everyone who played a part in supporting my recovery and for being there for my children and thank-you to the paramedics and hospital staff.”

This weekend a fundraising event is being hosted by Fynnland Combined Sports Club for her ongoing recovery costs. The Jam for Sam will see a host of local bands takeg to the stage to delight revellers on Saturday, 24 October. There will also be entertainment for children.
