Jewel con artist dupes senior citizens

Thief uses sleight of hand to dupe unsuspecting residents

POLICE warn Bluff residents of a young Indian man who is fleecing residents, especially the elderly, out of their precious coins and jewellery.

The man, aged about 20 to 25 years, poses as a coin collector and evaluator.

He claims that he purchases Kruger coins and other valuable coins and jewellery. He will receive a coin and in an unnoticeable manner,  swap it with a 50c  coin,  then wrap it in tape and place it in a glass container. He tells his victims if it sinks, it is not real gold. He will swiftly depart and on opening the taped coin or jewellery piece, his victims will discover their valuable item has been stolen.

He applies the same principle with other pieces of jewellery such as rings and chains.

If you are approached by this man, call the police on 10111 or your nearest police station.
